Dear Atlas,
It’s me, your Dad.
You’ve been popping up in my dreams a lot. For the past few nights, I’ve had dreams where I’m conscious you are coming, and had many conversations with the people I encounter in the dreams about how I feel as I prepare to be a father.
I wish I could tell you I feel ready to be your Dad, but that wouldn’t be entirely true. From what I’ve heard (and experienced), there isn’t anything that will ever make someone feel ready to be a parent, and that doesn’t make anyone a bad person.
When I look around, I see a lot of people who seem to really nail the parenting thing. Diaper-bag-toting parent warriors who can change a dirty diaper, prepare a snack, and clean up a mess in three seconds flat, or parents who seem to have an “everything bag” that never runs out of the supplies required for a day trip.
You’ll understand the struggle a lot more when you get older. Hopefully I’ll be able to share some of my learnings with you and help you prepare for the role of being a Dad, Partner, and Man, three things that most people seem to struggle with in this day and age.
Love,
Dad
