Dear Atlas,

It’s me, your Dad.

It’s another beautiful morning: writing to you, listening to Steve Taylor (Squint, track 3), and thinking of your arrival.

Your Mom and I keep having dreams about you. I dreamed about you last night. You’re a beautiful baby, and it was amazing to see both of us in you. I certainly can’t wait to hold you in my arms and do everything possible to create an environment of love for our family.

Your arrival has certainly been an abrupt event. Your Mom and I are both highly independent people who probably planned on having children “one day,” but didn’t seem to have it on our radar that a positive pregnancy test would come so soon.

In a lot of ways, anticipating you has brought about a lot of positive change. Your Mom and I are connecting in new ways (and letting go of old ones) and have a shared common goal of us, our family.

You’re part of that, Atlas. A really big part. We see the opportunity we have to provide you with a great life, one that will be meaningful, rich, and full of wonderful memories with your parents. Experiences, trips, meals together, conversation, the ever-fun day trips to the grocery store, and whatever other adventures we find ourselves in.

I know one of the best things I can do for our family is to be a man of my word. It’s easy to make promises, but difficult to fulfill them. Even if it’s something small (like writing to you every day), I’m doing my best to be better at keeping my commitments, promises, and goals intact.

I love you, Atlas.

Dad
