Dear Atlas,
It’s me, your Dad.
I have a lot of hopes for you: hopes for lessons you’ll learn, things you’ll experience, opportunities you’ll have. I hope someday you’ll understand what it means to be kind, have the courage to set a boundary, gather the bravery to stick to it, and be willing to unconditionally love and accept others.
Accepting others isn’t a hard thing to do, Atlas. It can be boiled down to “live and let live”—a practice that will save you years of stress and anger if you stick to it.
I can change some things in my life, things directly related to my energy field and the way I choose to respond to circumstances. You’ll be able to do this, too. Remember that, and it will help you regulate your emotions.
There are times, however, when all the emotional regulation in the world won’t work. Or, it will seem to have only worked to a point. I’ve seen that limit recently and realized that sometimes the best action is to not do anything at all.
Your Mom and I used to feed the birds in the morning. I miss that.
Love,
Dad
