Dear Atlas,

It’s me, your Dad.

I’m living an experience now that I wish more people took the time to capture and reflect on: the moments before becoming a Father.

Fatherhood is a very special gift, Atlas. It’s a responsibility that I wish a lot more men took upon themselves to do well. It’s not an easy undertaking because it’s not something you get to practice or repeat.

Being a Dad is a one-shot thing. Either you get it right, or you don’t. At thirty-three years old, I’ve seen the impact proper parenting can have.

Good parenting results in healthy children, Atlas. In my home, our parents were keenly focused on maintaining harmony. I don’t mean they kept the place quiet. Rather, they consciously put effort into helping their children realize the value of their siblings and grow strong relationships with them.

That’s the bonus of parenting. You get to see your children succeed, while also forming unbreakable bonds with their own kin: friendship, accountability, trust, support, laughter and even vice.

I’ve seen and done a lot of cool, exotic, and flashy things in my life, Atlas. I’ve traveled the world, eaten thousand-dollar meals, and driven exotic cars. I’ve dined with billionaires, millionaires, beggars, and outcasts . . . that list could go on. Yet, all of those experiences don’t add up to the excitement, and permanence, of being your Dad.

I know you will be here soon, little Atlas.

Love,

Dad
